The Flow Sight Glass Type 550A Class 150/300 lbs is designed for industrial piping systems based on ASME B16.5 and ANSI/ASME flange standards. The sight glass enables reliable visual inspection of the medium during operation and is designed for applications with NPS nominal sizes and Class pressure ratings.
The installation position can be freely selected and adapted to the respective installation conditions of the plant. Design and engineering are carried out in accordance with PED 2014/68/EU and AD 2000.
As the design is based on Type 550, the face-to-face length complies with EN 558 rather than ASME.
In the standard version, the Flow Sight Glass Type 550A is manufactured from cast stainless steel 1.4408.
For particularly demanding operating conditions, the flow sight glass can also be manufactured in special materials depending on the medium, temperature, or chemical exposure.
The gaskets for the ASME B16.5 flow sight glass can also be adapted to the respective application. Flat gaskets with different material options are used, including novaphit® MST XP, KlingerSil® C4400, Garlock Gylon® and PTFE in pure or modified versions. More than 50 additional gasket materials are available on request.
For increased thermal loads, additional mica shields are available. In case of high chemical exposure, the sight glass can be equipped with an FEP or Halar® coating.
Thanks to our versatile manufacturing capabilities, the Flow Sight Glass Class 150/300 can be optimally adapted to the respective individual operating conditions.
The Flow Sight Glass Type 550A Class 150/300 lbs is designed for piping systems based on ASME B16.5 and ANSI/ASME flange standards.
Typical applications can be found in international industrial plant engineering, in the chemical industry, in the petrochemical industry, and in project-specific piping and vessel systems designed to US standards.
Depending on the requirements, versions with PTFE rotor, oil- and grease-free manufacturing or a silicone-free version including crater test are available. This allows the fitting to be configured not only mechanically and chemically, but also with regard to cleanliness and process requirements.

The Type 550A flow sight glass is designed for piping systems with connection dimensions in accordance with ASME B16.5 and is suitable for applications using ANSI/ASME flange standards.
The Type 550A is designed for Class 150 lbs and Class 300 lbs pressure ratings and is therefore suitable for a wide range of industrial applications with the relevant flange specifications.
The Type 550A flow sight glass is available in sizes ranging from NPS ½‘ to 8’. Smaller sizes (NPS ½‘ to 2’) are manufactured with square cover flanges, whilst larger sizes (NPS 2 ½‘ to 8’) are manufactured with round cover flanges.
The standard version of the Type 550A is manufactured from 1.4408 cast stainless steel. For more demanding operating conditions, special materials are also available, depending on the medium, temperature and chemical exposure.
Yes, the 550A model can be adapted to suit a variety of operating conditions. Options include different seal materials, special coatings, and additional features such as wipers, LED lights or spray nozzles. Material test certificates and pressure test certificates are available on request.
